Flat Reconfiguration
Designing for Dual Purpose: A Home to Live and Work

This project involved the sensitive reconfiguration of a compact flat to better support the client’s evolving lifestyle—particularly the need for a dedicated home-working area without compromising the overall liveability of the space.

The design focused on creating a calm, efficient layout that offered visual and acoustic separation between work and living zones, while maximising natural light and spatial flow. Clever use of built-in joinery and flexible partitions allowed for a workspace that feels integrated but distinct—supporting focus during the day and retreat in the evening.

Beyond internal layout changes, the project addressed the building envelope, introducing high-performance insulation, improved glazing, and airtightness upgrades. These measures not only enhanced thermal comfort and sound insulation but also contributed to a significant reduction in energy bills—future-proofing the flat for both climate and cost.

The result is a smart, sustainable, and serene space tailored to contemporary life—proving that even modest homes can be transformed through thoughtful design to support both well-being and productivity.
